Lori, you're pulled pork recipe is my favorite by far {: Not only was it easy to assemble, it tastes delicious!
Something I did different... Before putting the pork in the crock pot I brown all sides in a skillet. This last time I added a little Jack Daniels for moisture, the rest of the recipe followed precise.
The final outcome is outstanding no matter what! The meat is extremely flavorful & softly falls apart.

SueAnne,
Thank you for the kind words and the time to leave a comment.
My in-laws lived in Danville for a handful of years, which is close enough to Rockford to drive down for weekends. My husband and I really did enjoy our time there, and now that our in-laws have moved to Southern IL we miss visiting.
I completely understand what you mean. It's easy to to focus the want of "more" in a city. Rockford has its' challenges and as most of our architectural history is tied up in industrial buildings which are now mostly abandoned (we were the Screw Capital of the World, a title primarily earned to us during the World Wars =) there is a lack of grand architecture and opportunities that other cities claim. It can be hard to dredge up the beauty both physically and in spirit during these tough economic times.
I have recently joined a volunteer organization in Rockford and it has made all the difference. I have been so inspired by others in our community rolling up their sleeves to build a better tomorrow. That for me has recaptured the beauty of where I live.
I am so touched to have captured a piece of your city for you. This post on Danville has garnered more comments and emails than any other post to date on our blog ... I believe you are surrounded by amazing neighbors. Enjoy your city and have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
~ Kelly
P.S. I also have family in Tucson ... small world!

Hello, Kelly. I want to tell you how surprised I was to find your photos and thoughts on Danville, out here hiding on the internet. I'm from there. Born in Tucson but raised here. Now I'm raising my own child here. I want to thank you for opening my eyes to what I no longer saw. I didn't see what you saw, I saw the ugly of the city. You reminded me that there is still beauty here. I love the photos you took. I enjoyed how you described what you saw here. Thank you so much.

Regarding Danville, Illinois: The town of Denmark was flooded to create Lake Vermilion, it wasn't formed from a coal mine. The picture labeled YMCA is actually of the YWCA. The old YMCA was torn down years ago. Thanks, Mark

Thank you for your kind comments and the very interesting back story on Denmark. I will definitely be reading up more on this ... was Denmark abandoned prior to it being leveled and filled - or forced evacuation? I am just wondering if due to the rowdiness it was just easier to eliminate the town then clean up the street brawls. Fascinating.
I really enjoy Danville. My husband and I miss visiting as we no longer have family in the area. It is nice though that I still get to revisit occasionally for our office.
Thanks again for your comment and your time to add a little more insight to this post. Much appreciated!

Hello,

You have some really beautiful pictures posted here. The one regarding Lake Vermilion is partially correct regarding how it started. It is man made, but prior to the lake, there was small town there named Denmark (hence Denmark Rd. leading across it). Denmark was known for its saloons and drunken street brawls. Denmark was leveled and filled in with what is now known as Lake Vermilion. There are a lot of smaller lakes/ponds in Vermilion County that are old strip mines, especially in Kickapoo State Park.

Thank you for submitting the pictures. They are a very nice reflection of our part of the world.
